Image Critique - Minimalism

  • 49 Marlborough Road Wellington Point, Queensland, 4160 Australia (map)

Join us on Monday, 6 July as we explore the art of Minimalism Photography, a genre where less truly is more. Characterised by simplicity, clean lines, strong shapes, negative space, and carefully considered composition, minimalist photography challenges us to strip away distractions and focus only on the elements that are essential to the story we wish to tell.

We're delighted to welcome Anne Russell PhD LRPS AFIAP PSQA as our judge for the evening. Anne brings decades of photographic, educational, and judging experience, having taught photography since the 1970s and served as a past President and Life Member of Brisbane Camera Group. An accredited Queensland Photographic Society judge, Anne has judged extensively at club, national, and international levels across digital, print, and audiovisual categories.

Anne believes that every viewer experiences an image through their own unique perspective, making her particularly well placed to assess this thoughtful and interpretive genre. We look forward to hearing her insights and seeing how our members have embraced the challenge of creating powerful images with simplicity at their heart.

Whether you've captured bold geometric shapes, expansive negative space, subtle colour palettes, or a single compelling subject, we can't wait to see your interpretation of minimalism.

Entry is $4 per person and includes light refreshments.

Images are due for next month’s critique topic: Open Colour
