Weekend Outing - Sunset and Astro at Currrumbin Rock

  • Currumbin, Queensland, 4223 Australia (map)

Join us for an afternoon and evening of landscape and astrophotography at the beautiful Currumbin Rock on the Gold Coast.

We'll head down to the Gold Coast around 3:00pm to allow plenty of time to find parking, walk out to the rocks, and settle in before photographing sunset. As darkness falls, we'll stay on to capture the night sky and Milky Way over one of the Gold Coast's most iconic coastal locations.

What to Bring

  • Camera body

  • Tripod

  • Wide-angle lens for landscapes

  • Fast wide-angle lens for astrophotography (if you have one)

  • Chair, picnic blanket or towel to sit on

  • Warm clothing (it can get chilly after sunset)

  • Water and refreshments

There are cafés and takeaway options nearby, but you're also welcome to bring a packed dinner and some nibbles to enjoy while we wait for the stars to appear.

Weather

As this outing involves a longer drive and relies on clear skies, the weather will be monitored closely throughout the day. A final go/no-go decision will be made at 2:00pm.

Please note that a "maybe" forecast will result in the outing being cancelled. We'll only proceed if conditions are favourable for both sunset and astrophotography to ensure everyone gets the most out of the trip.

Registration is required for this session. Please refer to the monthly newsletter for registration details.
